GSP Offshore is among the 14 partners of the project coordinated by José Luis Domínguez, head of the Power Systems group at IREC, along with other companies and educational institutions.

The project will implement a 5 MW demonstrator in the Black Sea, paving the way for industrial mass production and the deployment of floating offshore wind farms. By coupling synergies with the oil & gas sectors, the BLOW project aims to accelerate the energy transition in the region and foster societal acceptance and cross-border policy development.

Offshore wind is a clean, cost-efficient, and scalable power source, and floating offshore wind energy is expected to play a key role in unlocking the vast potential of deep-sea areas. The project started in January 2023, has a budget above 21 M€ and will last for 5 years.

From now onwards, let the wind BLOW!!!!!

The operations ended on Tuesday night, the 25th of February.

“Our teams successfully refloated the Queen Hind. Our data shows that this was a unique operation, at least for the Black Sea region. The ship is now firmly in place at dock. We gladly announce that thanks to a tireless, human and technical, effort normal operations can resume at Midia Harbor”, specified Gabriel Comănescu, president and CEO of Grup Servicii Petroliere.

GSP employees worked around the clock for the refloating operations. Our diver teams worked even in four shifts. „GSP spared no resources for this project. We are fully aware of the emergency factor in the operation. We worked fast and did a good job. We registered no safety incidents, or environmental riscs”, said the president and CEO of GSP, Gabriel Comănescu. GSP mobilized, for the Queen Hind refloat operation, the biggest sea crane in the Black Sea: GSP Neptun.

Our experts used barges to further stabilize the Queen Hind. “It was not an easy operation. There seldom are easy operations in our field of work. We managed to refloat a ship, comparable in length to a football field. GSP successfully finished, without incidents, in record time a complex refloat operation”, stated Gabriel Comănescu. GSP is starting phase two of the agreed plan with the beneficiary. The mission to free the Queen Hind of the biological load, in 100% safe conditions for the personnel as well as for the environment, will be developed in close collaboration with local and national authorities. A big thank you to all our employees and partners, for a job well done.

GSP Offshore has signed the contract for integrated drilling services with Lukoil Overseas Atash BV. The project will be developed in Trident field, in the Romanian Black Sea sector and marks a new milestone for GSP, as the company accesses the deep-water drilling market.

The Trident field concession rights are owned by the Romanian branch of the Dutch subsidiary of Lukoil (87.8%) and Romgaz, the Romanian state-owned producer (12.2%). The gas deposit in the Trident field is estimated to 30 billion cubic meters and could be the second largest in Romania’s exclusive economic area.

GSP acts as main contractor, being responsible for the entire management of the drilling campaign. The scope of work comprises drilling and well-related services, as well as logistics and aviation. The project involves the drilling of a new expiration well – Trinity-1X, for which Saipem`s Scarabeo 9 semisubmersible drilling rig will be mobilized. The Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) is an ultra-deep-water drilling unit, designed to operate in water depth up to 12,000 ft, and with a drilling depth capacity up to 50,000 ft below the rotary table, and has been chosen due to its ability to lower its tower in order to allow the crossing of the Bosphorus Strait.

The drilling activities under the project are expected to commence in 4Q 2019.

On Thursday, December 29, at approximately 17.00, Grup Servicii Petroliere received the intervention request from the Maritime Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Constanța, being asked to intervene and provide support for the cargo vessel Basel Express, which was drifting, without propulsion, electricity and fuel, 3 miles away of the entrance of Constanța Port.

At 18:00 hr. GSP King, with the Master of the ship Eduard Troian in command, left Constanța Port with a crew of 14 onboard. The coordination of the rescue of the drifting vessel was provided by the Grup Servicii Petroliere ERCC (Emergency Response Coordination Centre), having Laurențiu Zanfir, the General Director of the Constanța Maritime Coordination Centre, in command of the joint rescue operation.

At 21.00 hr. – MRCC Constanța has accepted the proposal of the Master of GSP King to return to harbor and retrieve a grapnel (an anchor chains hookup device), to tow Basel Express. This maneuver was needed because the mooring lines of Basel Express broke when they were stretched for towing.

At 23.55 hr., the rescue vessel GSP King approached Basel Express again and started preparing for the hooking up maneuver with the grapnel anchor chain, in order to succeed using the chain as a tow line.

At 02.45 hr., at the end of 2 hours of difficult maneuvers, GSP King managed fouling the Basel Express anchor chain and the drifting ship set off towards Constanța Port under safe towage, the trailer length exceeding 200 meters.

The convoy arrived in Constanța Port in the morning where the cargo vessel was taken over by harbor tugs and berthed at the passenger quay of the port of Constanța.

Basel Express, with an approximately 8,000 dwt tonnage and 126 meters in length, loaded with grain, had its main engine damaged in the Constanța Port waiting area. The cargo ship was drifting to the Romanian seaside, the drifting path showing the stranding danger in Mangalia area. At the time of the rescue completion, Basel Express registered a drift of 11 nautical miles away from the initial waiting position.

The rescue operation was carried out under headwinds exceeding 55 nautical knots per hour (100 km/h) and waves of over 6 meters. The rescue operation was completed on Friday, at 11.38 hr., after almost 18 rescue action hours.

The anchoring solution provided by GSP King for the rescue of the drifting Basel Express is a first in Romania in an open sea rescue situation.
