The contract has been signed Monday, the 17th of November 2008, at the EMSA headquarters in Lisbon. Grup Servicii Petroliere has been awarded the oil recovery stand by vessel tender in the Black Sea, using GSP Orion, a DP1 offshore supply vessel. The project can be extended up to three years.
GSP Orion will be endowed with the most modern specialized oil recovery equipment, being able to intervene in pollution response actions under the direct coordination of the EMSA, covering the eastern maritime European Union area.
GSP Orion is expected to enter into operational service during first half of 2009. The procurement and installation costs of the oil spill recovery equipment, in the amount of almost EUR 2 million will be supported by EMSA.
GSP Orion is an offshore supply vessel, presently servicing the offshore oilfields on the Romanian continental shelf under a contract with Petrom. The GSP’s vessel qualified for the EMSA procurement procedure due to its capability to perform multiple types of offshore activities.
Mr. Willem de Ruiter, EMSA Executive Director, expressed his satisfaction that, the European Agency, has been able to contract response capacity for the Black Sea, as this area was the main target of the EMSA during 2008. The EMSA Executive Director also considered the tender process “a success” as the network of oil recovery vessels available now may cover all the regional seas of Europe. Mr. Fanel Hahui, GSP’s CEO, considers that GSP’s association with EMSA, a prestigious European Agency, represents the international acknowledgement of the complex and complete package of high quality offshore services of the company.
GSP Orion will carry out the regular commercial operations and, when needed, at short notice, will be transformed into oil recovery response vessel under the operational command of the affected Member State and the EMSA coordination, according to the contract.
